Kerri Kuntz
Bikram & Flow
Instructor, Sandpoint Hot Yoga
An athlete and outdoor enthusiast all
her life, Kerri found herself working a desk job for the first time in her
life, commuting 2 hours a day and feeling terrible at the end of the day. “You either have to feel good about
what you do at the end of the day or at least have fun doing it.
I was trapped in a really bad episode
of The Office!” Kerri attempted to combat the stress by increasing the
physical stress on her body training for a marathon. The combination of the beginnings of an
anxiety disorder and physical breakdown in her body, most notably
degenerative disc disease in her lower back, led her to her first yoga
class in 2003 in Truckee, CA. |
|
| |
After experimenting with various yoga classes, Kerri found the intensity
of the hot room and demanding physical series life changing and began to
feel more stable emotionally, mentally & physically, healing from the
inside out. “I could run up the side of a mountain but I couldn’t stand
till for 60 seconds with my arms over my head without breaking out in
tears from the pain. Now it’s the other way around but I feel so much
better this way.”
A deployment overseas with the Air National Guard in 2004 led her to take
a second look at what she was doing with her life and she decided she
wanted share her enthusiasm of the yoga by bringing this gift to others.
She attended Bikram Teacher Training in the Spring 2005 and taught Bikram
yoga and kids yoga in the Tahoe area before moving to Sandpoint in 2006.
She says, "look at me now…I can almost touch my toes!" |

Kollette Plummer
Flow Instructor, Sandpoint Hot Yoga
Kollette grew up in a small town, Fort Morgan, near Denver Co practicing
ballet and various forms of dance. She has always had a love for animals
and attended college at the University of Northern Colorado. After earning
her degree in biology, she decided she needed a break from her studies and
focused on dancing.
Kollette spent 3 years dancing for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders while
working at a local animal shelter. During this time, a friend invited her
to attend a core power yoga class and she fell in love with it. She completed teacher training for core
power yoga in the spring of 2006. |
|
| |
Kollette & her husband moved
to Sandpoint in 2007 for a change of pace and to be closer to family and
nature. When not teaching or practicing yoga, Kollette remains loyal to
her first love of animals and is a board member of the Panhandle Animal
Shelter as well as teaches the middle school dance team.
Her class is a fun and playful flow set to music in low lighting. It is
also performed in a hot room to get a great workout and all the
detoxifying benefits of the heat. We recommend an intermediate yoga
practice or the recommendation of an instructor to attend the flow class. |

Jennings Waterhouse
Bikram Instructor, Sandpoint Hot Yoga
Growing up in Jackson, Wyoming gave Jennings
ample opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor pursuits. Her
passions involved horses and three-day eventing, soccer, and snowboarding.
She accumulated a variety of sports-related injuries, but had little
interest in yoga.
It was not until later, while attending
college in southern California that Jennings discovered the therapeutic
effects of hot yoga. Hot yoga classes became the “perfect antidote” for
the stresses of studying and deadlines. Seemingly miraculously, old
injuries were healing at the same time. She was hooked. Following graduation,
Jennings decided to move to Sandpoint. |
|
| |
Working as a chef and
innkeeper for her family business and pursuing design projects on the side
created a busy lifestyle. She was thrilled when Sandpoint Hot Yoga opened
its doors and enthusiastically renewed her practice. Once again, she
became convinced of the profound emotional and physical benefits that this
practice provided. In the spring of 2009, she attended the nine week
teacher training in Palm Desert, California and became a Bikram certified
instructor. |

Sadie
Tillberg
Flow Instructor, Sandpoint Hot Yoga
Born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho, Sadie
enjoys many of the outdoor activities the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
“My activities change with the seasons. When it’s winter I mostly
cross-country ski or go snowshoeing. |
|
| |
If it’s spring or summer you will find me in
the garden or in the lake.” She says that yoga is something she does
year-round to keep her balanced. Sadie found yoga on one of
her trips to Central America when she was fourteen. “I had only used a
video to do yoga and I really liked it so I signed up to take a real class
on the beach.” She recalls, “There was just something wonderful about
having a real teacher there to guide you through the poses. It felt
great.”
Once back home in North
Idaho there wasn’t as many options for yoga classes. So she kept using the
videos and developing a strong personal practice at home. Then, while
planning to take a yoga retreat she decided to go to yoga teacher training
instead. She wanted to make yoga more accessible to her local community
and teaching it was her way to contribute. “I want people to feel the way
I do when I am the student.”
She went to school in Baja, Mexico and
graduated from Yandara Yoga Institute in 2005 and has been teaching yoga
in the Sandpoint area ever since. Her blend of iyengar precision alignment
with a power vinyasa flow, creates a safe, challenging class with a wide
variety of postures. She adds, “I really enjoy teaching and I learn so
much from the students.” Her classes are blended with just the right mix
of meditation and postures that will keep the mind and body working
harmoniously. “Yoga is something good that you do for yourself, but others
around you will also feel the positive vibe you carry off of the mat with
you. It’s contagious!”
Sadie is a dedicated team captain for the
American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and has raised thousands of
dollars for charitable organizations using yoga to unite and help people.
She plans on eventually owning and operating a retreat center dedicated to
wellness on all levels - personal, communal, and global. |

Noelle Zmuda
Flow Instructor, Sandpoint Hot Yoga
After living in various places around the US and the world, Noelle found
herself back in North Idaho, close to where she grew up in Moscow, and
this is where she was introduced to yoga. When Noelle was pregnant with her twin
boys, her friend introduced her yoga by showing her poses that she could
practice at home for about 10 minutes every day which helped her remain
comfortable up until the last week before she had her twins. |
|
| |
After having her boys, Noelle began to practice yoga every day with the
aid of videos, as well as twice a week at local studios. Over time and
with research, she really began to feel the healthy effects of yoga and
felt a desire to share with others. This is what led her to teacher training
in the winter/spring of 2010.
Noelle enjoys the benefits
of various yoga styles but she is particularly drawn to a flowing Vinyasa.
Practicing Vinyasa requires you to slow down and pay attention to the
subtle sensations in your body, as well as the form. Noelle says, “With
this concept in mind, my body has been able to do things that I never
would have thought possible!”
Noelle received her 200 hour yoga alliance certified training from Mellow
Monkey Yoga in Spokane, WA. When she’s not chasing her 2 year old boys
around, she dabbles in interior design, and enjoying the outdoors with
friends & family in the beautiful place we live. |

Mary
Harvey
Growing Yogis Instructor
Mary grew up in Aspen, CO where she had the opportunity to be involved in
many sports, competing and excelling in skiing and swimming.
Her interest turned to marathon running
but was cut short due to a back injury. Mary first discovered the benefits of
Bikram yoga in 2007 when introduced to it while visiting a friend in
Colorado. “The physical and mental
benefits were extraordinary for me from the very first class…I felt almost
immediate relief from sciatica which has enabled me to resume my love of
running, With practice, it has given me more confidence & acceptance of
who I am and more internal peace than ever before,” Mary says. |
|
| |
Mary thought that if Yoga
could provide her with so many benefits, imagine what it could do for her
kids! “Kids today are faced with so much peer pressure,” Mary says, “My
daughter often feeling the effects of this pressure, she was the
motivational factor behind my decision to research a kids yoga class. I
felt that not only might it help her confidence with the beautiful young
girl she was but provide her with a non competitive way to be a part of
something bigger...I wanted to share this gift of what yoga has given me
to other children as well.” Hence
we created Growing Yogis!
Mary has noticed the
positive effects of yoga with her daughters including being more calm,
confident, less quick to react & more apt to recognize unhealthy
behaviors. We are so lucky to have Mary to bring this wonderful program to
Sandpoint! |
